A message from the Trustees
After two years of COVID enforced disruption, we are very excited to announce details of the 2022 National Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge (NSSCC). The last two years have allowed us to refine the competition and our organising committee have worked extensively to bring this event back. We are also incredibly fortunate and grateful to our loyal group of sponsors who have continued to support us throughout this period
We’ve made some changes to the regional format this year which we believe will make the competition more accessible and less disruptive. Planning for a potential covid environment was a key part of our thinking and the regional competition will now be an online entry. This replaces the live events that we have had in previous years. Our national finalists will be selected through these events and then invited to participate in an Auckland based cook off to select our national winners. All finalist teams and teachers will also be invited to participate in the New Zealand culinary journey which occurs the day after the live cook off. The culinary journey is an educational / networking event that includes supplier visits and industry tours.
Given the challenges the hospitality industry has faced over the last two years the NSSCC is now more important and relevant than ever. Our trust goal has always been to promote the hospitality industry to students and expose both teachers and trainers to a network of industry contacts. We’re very proud of some of the success stories that we’ve had. Hospitality and tourism will recover, and our industry peers need talented New Zealand students more than ever.

In the coming weeks we will announce details on two online Teachers’ seminars to be held in March and April that will be open to interested teachers. During these seminars we will outline the regional judging criteria and the rules and guidelines that we will be using. We’re promoting these to ensure that all teams are as well prepared and informed as possible.
